Phosphor Games’ Project Awakened has been floating around for a little while. The cornerstone of the game revolves around the concept of “who do you want to be?” Phosphor Games is hoping to create a game where you can create any character you want: appearance, abilities…anything. Project Awakened revolves around a world in which genetic engineering has come ahead by leaps and bounds. Humans can purchase powers on the black market and use them for good or evil. A world where the AI can respond in real-time to the powers the players use.
It’s quite an ambitious project and Phosphor Games has set lofty goals for themselves. They’ve set up a Kickstarter in hopes to raise $500,000 towards the game and they’ve outlined some of their hopes for the Project Awakened world. However, what caught my attention was the recently revealed Unreal Engine 4 demo video.
In addition to being slightly terrifying, Phosphor Games showcases the depth of their character creation mod. Players can create their characters from the ground up…or nerves and tendons out I suppose. You can pick things like super strength, nerve regeneration, cold fusion or extreme endurance. Do you want to wield the power of fire? Have spikes growing out of your arm? Or how about a bone dagger that shoots out of a creepy separated hand? Do you want to fight with a sword, gun or crossbow? Wear a creepy painted mask? “Who do you want to be?”
Also take a look at their Modding Video Update that showcases some of the types of players and worlds such as Sci-Fi, Metaverse, Fantasy, and…Furry. My particular favorites are the fireman using a bat to vanquish giant turtles and a samurai fighting a giant crab.
